The Commissioner, Miles Wolff, was back on familiar and decidedly friendlier turf today speaking to City Council ahead of the regular Council meeting. For those of you that didn’t catch the webcast, things went off without a hitch. Friends of the Rapids, Jean Pierre Allard (freelance), Terry Marcotte (CTV Ottawa) and Don Campbell (The Citizen) took time to speak with Miles pre and post ceremonies.
Miles Wolff and Mayor Larry O’Brien
Miles Wolff, letting Council know he’ll be back soon, looking for a lease beyond 2009.
Terry Marcotte gathers the Commissioner’s thoughts.
What no one would have seen was the amount of work that went into the relatively brief presentation. Bruce Murdock (Deep Fly, if you prefer), the Raps point man at City Hall, made sure that all of the material was delivered to Laurier Avenue yesterday and helped out with the letter that went to each Councillor.
Look for MSM reports on CTV and The Ottawa Citizen this evening and tomorrow.
Quick note … you might remember Shawn McCart, who was the Lynx play-by-play man back in 2006.
Shawn, a native of the Niagara Region, will be back in Ottawa, for one game at least, broadcasting basketball for Streaming Sports Network Canada on Friday when Brock plays at the Canadian university champion at Scotiabank Place. Small world, eh?
Best and warm wishes (on this cold Friday evening) going out to our friends Bruce (Deep Fly) and his son Ryan (Shallow Fly?) who are both, most decidedly, under the weather right now. Speedy recoveries for you both.
Got a nice note updating all of us on the activities of Jody Kingsbury, who was a media relations intern with the Lynx last summer.
Jody has been using his winter well, putting together video highlight packages for the varsity teams at McMaster University down in Hamilton.
Speaking as someone whose CIS fetish has been spun off into a second blog, Jody’s highlight packages perfectly capture the atmosphere of a university game in Canada. It’s professional work but it doesn’t look so slick that you forget you’re watching true student-athletes.
No doubt a lot of collegiate and professional sports organizations could stand to have Mr. Kingsbury’s expertise and enthusiasm.
Thanks to uber-blogger, Neate Sager, who beat me to the ball quite handily on this. Hat tip to RD for alerting us to Mr. Kingsbury’s work. I’m hopeful that the Rapids will be able to harness the power of the ‘net and a Windows/Apple computer and produce something similar for their website. Which isn’t to say this stuff is easy, and Neate nailed it: Jody’s work looks pro.
